This fun and engaging activity will have your students begging to look for themes in books or passages. In this activity, the students will be given the task of finding the theme using evidence from the text to support their thinking. This detective/spy themed packet includes: Cover page (page 1) Notes for the Teacher (pp.2-3) Two versions of Mission Impossible Task Explanation (pp.4-5) Snooping Out the Theme Recording Chart (p.6) Two versions Mission Impossible Compare/Contrast Chart (p.7-8) Optional Student Resources –List of possible themes and evidence statements (pp.9-11) Certification of Completion (p.12) Credits (p.13) Terms of Use (p.14) I hope your students enjoy this “mission” as much as my kids do! It certainly gives them a memorable experience so that when they are asked to find the theme of a passage on a state assessment, they know exactly what to do and how to support their answer with evidence from the text. This activity addresses the ELA-CCSS-RL.4.2 and RL.5.2 Check out the preview for a closer look. Thanks, ~Nicole *****Please note this files does not contain passages. I did include a list of some suggested picture books that could be used, but the activities could be used with any piece of literature.*****
